At this point we have a good start. You have begun the process of re-establishing areas of your relationship that are important to make a stronger relationship. Now it’s time to give your partner some attention by being affectionate. The affection you want to show is not just physical, but heartfelt. Affection is described as “the state of mind towards a thing; disposition toward.” Affectionate means “having great love or affection; a warm feeling; proceeding from affection.”

The eyes are a way to give attention to things of importance. Often we use a lack of eye contact to express how little a person means to us. We don’t read books that aren’t important. Express how much your partner means to you by giving him or her one of the easiest things you can give: love through attention, and that by way of your eyes.

Often the most important things are the smallest and easiest ones to overlook or ignore. The use of eye contact and the holding of hands can help the process of healing and intimacy in relationships.

“Daily Interaction”
Find somewhere quiet to sit together. Sit as close to each other as possible. For at least 15 minutes, hold hands. I suggest hand over hand (i.e., the woman’s hand on the bottom with the man’s hand over hers; then the woman’s other hand over his, and finally the man’s hand over the woman’s). During this time, maintain consistent eye contact as well, and simply talk to each other.
